Climate Change

Fountain of Life Uganda (FOLU) is actively addressing climate change challenges in Otuke District through initiatives aimed at building climate resilience, promoting adaptation strategies, and reducing environmental degradation. The organization recognizes that unpredictable weather patterns, prolonged droughts, floods, and soil degradation are severely impacting agricultural productivity and livelihoods. To combat these challenges, FOLU integrates climate-smart agriculture (CSA), environmental conservation, and sustainable land management into its community programs.

One of FOLU’s key climate change interventions is promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) to help farmers adapt to shifting weather patterns. The organization trains women, youth, and smallholder farmers in drought-resistant crop production, soil conservation techniques, organic pest control, and agroforestry.

By encouraging practices such as mulching, water harvesting, and intercropping, FOLU ensures that farming communities can continue to produce food despite erratic rainfall and prolonged dry spells. The use of indigenous knowledge combined with modern farming techniques has been instrumental in helping farmers mitigate the adverse effects of climate change while improving food security.

FOLU also focuses on environmental conservation and afforestation as a key strategy for climate mitigation. Through tree planting programs, the organization distributes indigenous tree seedlings that absorb carbon, prevent soil erosion, and act as natural pollinators. Community members, particularly child mothers and youth, are trained in sustainable forestry management and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
